I. Installation instructions
Note: Perform the following steps after downloading and extracting the driver above.
Power on the system and make sure the USB port is enabled and working properly.
Download USBPSSetup.exe to a temporary directory on your system and run the file by double-clicking it.
Plug the USB cable of the USB Serial Parallel Adapter into the USB port and Windows will detect it.
If the warning message software has not passed windows logo testing appears, select Continue anyway.
II. Setting up a serial device
To connect the serial device, perform the following steps:
Plug the serial device into the serial port of the USB Serial Parallel adapter.
Plug the USB cable of the USB Serial Parallel adapter into the USB port on your system.
Configure your serial port by going to the properties of your serial device and ensure that the port is set to USB Serial Port. Each serial device is setup differently.
III. Setting up a printer device
To connect the printer device, perform the following steps:
Power off the printer and plug the printer device into the printer port of the USB Serial Parallel adapter.
Power on your printer.
Power on your system and plug the USB cable of the USB Serial Parallel adapter into the USB port on your system.
If you have previously installed a printer device, click Start, then click Printers and Faxes. If the printer is not installed, go to Step 7.
Right-click the default printer and then click Properties.
In the properties window click the Details tab; then change the printer port to USB to Parallel Port.
If you do not have a printer installed, click Start, then click Printers and Faxes, and click Add a Printer to open the Add Printer Wizard window.
Click the Next button to continue to the Local or Network Printer selection.
Deselect Local printer attached to this computer to have Windows XP Automatically detect and install my plug and play printer.
Click the Next button to continue.
When prompted for the port that the printer will use, choose USB001 (virtual printer port for USB).
Click the Next button to continue.
From the Add Printer Software window, choose your printer manufacturer and model from the list.
Click the Next button to and following the remaining prompts to install your printer driver.
Run Print Test Page to test printer connection.
IV. Uninstallation instructions for the USB Serial Parallel adapter driver
Before running the Uninstall.exe program, it is advised to shut down and save any applications or files being used as the system must restart to complete uninstallation. You may uninstall the USB Serial Parallel adapter device driver by double-clicking the Uninstall.exe file. You will be prompted to click OK to reboot your system.

Open source drivers are included in Linux kernels 2.6.11 and later. These have support for the Prolific 2303 chipset, and recognize the plug and play IDs of the Plugable adapter.
Other Platforms:
The adapter uses the standard USB Prolific VID and PID of 0×2303, which is recognized by all of Prolific’s standard drivers.
Please visit the Prolific PL2303 driver download page for all other operating system options. Login as guest with the password guest and choose USB Serial/Parallel under USB Smart I/O Controllers.
